She said surprises are good for you, and she was right.

“Maybe young women don’t wonder whether they can have it all any longer, but in case any of you are wondering, of course you can have it all. What are you going to do? Everything, is my guess. It will be a little messy, but embrace the mess. It will be complicated, but rejoice in the complications. It will not be anything like what you think it will be like, but surprises are good for you. And don’t be frightened: you can always change your mind. I know: I’ve had four careers and three husbands.”

  1. Ah Nora, of course you’re right. I’ve had four careers and just started a fourth, (not counting all the jobs in between), three husbands, and lived in five different states. It’s okay to explore. However, I’m not in favor of three marriages…that’s a lot of drama. But sometimes that’s the way it works out. “Don’t be frightened.”

    • I am not sure if I would have bothered with more than one marriage, but I suppose it all depends on who we meet along the way, doesn’t it! I realised long ago that people will always provide many reasons not to do something, and few to do it. I just have to trust my instinct.

  2. The part about multiple husbands is kinda sad, but the rest is right on the mark. If you want to try something new, try something new. Don’t let someone else put you off because they don’t think you should do it.
