I had my first student suspended last week. I feel as though I have been blooded as a teacher!
Spawn was sitting with his feet on the coffee table in the library and when I asked him to take his feet off the table he refused. I told him to leave the library. As he did so, he turned and wiped his shoes all over the couch. THEN he turned and gave me the finger (rude gesture).
I ordered him into my office and lectured him about respect for school property and respect for teachers. I then referred him to the detention.
When he went to detention he claimed he wasn’t giving me the finger, he was giving the couch the finger.
I said well, then in that case, both the couch and I are very offended.
He was suspended for a couple of days.

Wonderful kid. Wonder what his parents did, though I suspect that if he acted that way in school, his parents as parents aren’t much to rave about.

Minerva, my assistant and I often wonder the same thing. Usually they are better behaved in public, so one can only roll ones eyes thinking what home might be like.

It is a very well behaved couch. It knows its place exactly! I gave him my angry face which is worse than any stick.

What a little turd. I wonder how effective suspensions are for kids whose parents don’t give a rats though. Like a free holiday.

I agree – he is a turd, and it is a free day. I prefer that they go to detention. However if they get a suspension, the parents have to front up before the are allowed back into the classroom.

I often ask Minerva if I can hit them, but she restrains my evilosity. Apparently as much as she adores working with me, she refuses to visit me in jail.

He has been a constant irritation all year. I have no idea why he comes into the library, I suspect because his attitude would get him beaten up in the playground.

When I meet kids like that my initial reaction is to wanting to slap them silly. And always have to remind myself that it is more likely the parents fault that they are this way, than them being evil little monsters.
